LIGHTHOUSE DAILY UPDATE – Tuesday 2 of December 2025..
By Paul S. Waugh, Chris Nash and Shaun Cooper..
Good evening everyone,
Daily Prayer
Today’s Daily Prayer invites us to rest in God’s eternal security — to trust that our eternity is secured, and to find peace beyond life’s trials. It reminds us that in Christ we are eternally sheltered, supported and loved, regardless of our struggles, fear or suffering.
Here is today’s prayer: Paul S. Waugh Daily Prayer 🔈
Today’s Focus: The Root Beneath the Root
We all know pride is dangerous. Scripture calls it “The Great Sin.” C.S. Lewis devoted an entire chapter to it in Mere Christianity. We’ve all seen it destroy lives, relationships, and souls.
But what if pride isn’t the deepest problem? What if there’s something beneath it—a foundational delusion that makes pride inevitable?
In today’s update, Paul S. Waugh takes us deeper than the symptom to expose the disease: the illusion of separateness. The false belief that we exist independently from God, that we’re autonomous beings who can define our own reality.
This isn’t just theology—it’s psychology, philosophy, and hard reality. From a secular perspective, we’re utterly embedded in systems beyond our control. From a Christian perspective, we exist moment by moment through God’s sustaining grace.
Pride, Paul argues, is what happens when we forget this truth. It’s competitive by nature because once we believe we’re separate from God, we must establish identity by comparison—by being better than, above, more than others.
This piece will challenge you. It will expose the pride you didn’t know you had. And it will show you the only way out: reconnection through humility, dependence, and the cross.

This hit’s me, that the deadly sin of pride isn’t actually our biggest problem, it’s just what grows out of something deeper: the belief that we can stand on our own, separate from God. That’s Satan’s greatest endeavour. When we forget how dependent we truly are, pride sneaks in and pushes us to compare, compete, and prove ourselves. It’s uncomfortable to realise how much of this lives in us, but this message offers hope too—reminding us that the way out isn’t trying harder, but reconnecting with God through humility and surrender. Ironically, that’s where our strength is
To truly solve the problems we face in society, we need to understand their root causes, otherwise we’re only applying a bandaid, and the issues will simply return. That’s why the article on diabolical pride and separation feels so crucial and powerful. So often we get caught up in our day-to-day worries and lose sight of the bigger picture. Thank you.
This is absolutely huge. I read the article yesterday but it’s been so impactful it’s been very much on my mind and heart, the reality of separateness and the need for God, a genuine real personal and repentant relationship with Him. God bless you Paul, hell well and strong in Christ forever.
Wow, what a hard hitting article and truth power punch! I appreciate Paul’s honesty about where he has come from in relation to his diabolical pride as I can relate to that strongly. The conditioning to want to have more than others to feel validated starts early! I can still remember school tests at primary school and how the message is that we need to be able to beat our “competition” who is fellow man and the separation that comes from this. And this expands into physical adulthood where adverts predominantly have the message that who we and and what we haven’t isn’t enough because others have more! It makes Jesus’s message of love thy neighbour as ourselves so beautiful end though I struggle greatly to live that.
Thank you…I know my pride gets in the way of so much in my life, this article you have shared is one that I know, personally, I need and my pride needs to be challenged by.
Thank you for sharing this Paul, God bless you and I pray you are getting the rest you need as well so you can heal 🙏
What a powerful update. This article is one I will continually return to — the insights shared are incredibly valuable and, in many ways, disarming when we consider how much we were never taught as children. I really appreciate the work, research, love, and care that’s been poured into this article and update. I’m continually praying for Paul’s health amidst everything happening here and beyond. God bless us all. x x
The article on diabolical pride is huge! Again, it goes to show why humanity is the way it is, starting with each individual human being and therefore I recognise the opportunity and need to look at myself.
I’ve seen how pride has been a huge barrier when it comes to things like taking responsibility and therefore make things right. This article is crucial for meaningful self-reflection and study.
Thinking that I was separate from God is exactly what I thought when I was atheist and now I can clearly see how childish and misled such thoughts are. To say that I can even survive without God is a false statement when considered in the light of the whole universe that God created.
I pray that many more will come to see this reality.
Between Paul’s work on the disease of sin and separation and diabolical pride, I’m starting to understand more than I have ever done as to why I have felt like I’m walking upstream all the time, spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and physically.
I have caused so much illegitimate suffering to myself and others through my own arrogance, pride and delusion of independence BUT God, I would not be receiving the grace of this work if I could not change, through the power of The Holy Spirit. I pray for us all as we work and transform in Christ.
Thank you to God, Paulie and the team for this work 🙏
This really hit home for me — thank you for writing so clearly. The idea that the root problem isn’t just pride, but believing we’re independent from God, speaks loudly to my heart. It’s humbling to realise how often I fall into that illusion of separateness. I’m grateful for the reminder: our healing comes from reconnecting to God, leaning on Him in humility instead of proving ourselves. May He draw us back to true dependence and unity.
