9th September 2026 – Lighthouse Wednesday Update – Who Decides What Is in the Public Interest?

Lighthouse Daily – 9th September 2026…

Good day, fellow citizens and brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today’s update is about a 4-minute read and introduces the opening article in Paul S. Waugh’s new series: Lighthouse Global: In the Public Interest? (20-minute read)

We hear the phrase “in the public interest” from journalists, government departments, regulators and other powerful institutions. Yet how often do we stop and ask what it actually means — or who gets to decide?

Today we invite you into that necessary examination.

If you are new to our work at Lighthouse Global and want to understand why the Establishment attacked us, click below to read a statement from our CEO and founder, Paul S. Waugh.

1. Body of Christ Zero Degrees of Separation and Last Days Critical To-Do List

Are We Judging Righteously?

“Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favouritism to the great, but judge your neighbour fairly.” — Leviticus 19:15 (NIV)

As Christians, we are not called to accept a judgement merely because it comes from a familiar, respected or powerful source. We are called to seek truth, refuse partiality and judge righteously before God.

That responsibility becomes especially urgent when claims made “for the public” can absolutely devastate people’s lives. The public is not an abstract concept. It includes every one of us, our families, our neighbours, the vulnerable, those accused of wrongdoing and those affected by the actions taken in response.

Before we look outward, we must therefore examine ourselves. Do we seek the truth when it challenges what we already believe? Do we judge others by the standard we would want applied to us? Have we ever mistaken authority, reputation or emotional force for proof?

These are difficult questions, but the Body of Christ cannot return to zero degrees of separation in Christ without learning to bring our judgements, loyalties and assumptions honestly before Him.

2. Lighthouse Global: In the Public Interest?

Introducing a New Series

“The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favour with him.” — Proverbs 11:1 (NIV)

Today we introduce the opening article in Paul S. Waugh’s new series: Lighthouse Global: In the Public Interest? — When Tyrannical Power Claims to Act for the People.

This introduction begins with a question that affects every citizen: what does it truly mean to act in the public interest?

The phrase carries extraordinary moral authority. It can shape what is published, whom the public trusts, what action institutions take and how another human being is seen. Yet a phrase with that much power cannot remain vague or be defined only by those invoking it.

This new series will examine the issue carefully, with Lighthouse Global’s 22-year empirical and Christ-centred research and development work as its central case study. It will not ask readers to inherit a conclusion from Lighthouse Global or from the institutions that have acted against us. It will make the point that, to be truly dedicated to truth, the public needs to engage anything they come across with honest questions, seeking actual evidence and being aware of the human consequences for themselves as well as others.

The opening piece establishes why that examination is necessary and prepares the way for the articles that follow. We invite you to read it prayerfully, thoughtfully and with the willingness to test conflicting and opposing statements by the same standard.

3. Application and Moving Forward

Read, Test and Judge for Yourself

“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” — 1 John 4:1 (NIV)

To reiterate, to be genuinely dedicated to truth and reality, you cannot replace trust in powerful institutions with blind trust in Lighthouse Global. The key is that your conscience and judgement are not bypassed by simply accepting information and published material at face value without question.

As you read this opening article, pause over its central questions. What do you currently understand by “the public interest”? Who has shaped that understanding? What should be required of any person or institution claiming to act in its name?

Then consider what is at stake when the answer is unclear.

If the public interest can be invoked without proper examination, any citizen may one day find that decisions of enormous consequence have been made supposedly on their behalf — or against them.

This is only the start of something that is crucial and vital for our lives, livelihoods and families. The series will unfold its case in stages so that readers can consider each question before moving to the next. For today, we simply invite you to begin with the introduction, test what it raises and ask what righteous judgement before God requires of every one of us.

Note: Given Paul’s longstanding ill health resulting from the multiple Establishment attacks on him, these daily updates are generated by the team, drawing from recent and older meetings and what we are working with here at Lighthouse. We ask you to keep him in your prayers as he builds strength and renews in our Lord.

God bless,

Paul S. Waugh, Chris Nash and Shaun Cooper

Really critical update today. The term “public interest” is one that I never considered to be of any real relevance or consequence. That was until I found it be used and abused by first, the Daily Mail, then the Insolvency Service and then the BBC.

Yet when I look at each of these organisations it is shameful. The way that the Daily Mail will sensationalise tragedy and grief is insidious. Then we have the Insolvency Service who would relentlessly target and try to shut down organisations like Kids Company. And last, but not least, the BBC with its register of paedophilia and child sexual abuse.

Apparently the organisations who abuse the public deem themselves to be fit to determine what’s in the public’s interest? This needs to be revealed for all truthseeking, conservative Christians to see…

I value the point about not confusing authority, reputation or emotional influence with proof. I’ve been at court and with a keen eye you see how not great the running of the system is. For instance being about confront a witness has been curtailed too much. With all the gowns and wigs give the impression of highest standard, in reality it really isn’t. Seeking truth brought more accuracy and thus clarity in seeing the court. This leads to discussion about public interest and the weight of those words, they’re very important that’s why it’s used so offend by the media and government agencies. It needs to used with accountability – be held to being in the public interest.

I’m looking forward to this new series and to understanding more about what it means to be in the public interest. I appreciate the call to truth and to first look at the facts from everyone’s side before making a judgement call. I can see more clearly how dangerous it can be to say something is in the public interest without clearly defining what that actually means and without being able to back it up.

Thank you for this article.

Such an important reminder to question, test and seek the truth for ourselves rather than simply accepting what we are told. May we always pursue truth and righteous judgement before God. God bless.

Thank you for introducing the “In the Public’s Interest” series. I think this series will be a must-read. I feel the phrase “in the public’s interest” has been misused so much in the media, as you have proven, by the BBC. They use this so much, but from what I can tell, it is only their own interest they are interested in. The truth is coming out, and the records are being corrected.
Thank you Paul, and all involved…God bless you all…

“If the public interest can be invoked without proper examination, any citizen may one day find that decisions of enormous consequence have been made supposedly on their behalf — or against them.”

The reality of this is so stark and many citizens will not understand why…we did not think this could or would happen to us and until we experienced the lengths the Establishment will go to to maintain a position of power, control and feed its greed, we had been brought into the lie that these institutions cared about our growth, development and welfare, fairness and justice….the reality is extremely disturbing.

The public interest question is absolutely crucial and I’m very glad you’re doing a series on it. You may not hear that term a lot if you just consume media, but if you’re in any way part of making media, you will have come across this term most likely, whether in the MSM or a citizen journalist. I find it outrageous that this is a term so frequently used by the media to justify any kind of broadcasting and yet when you look into it, the term HAS no actual definition. You’d have sworn it’s like asking the radical left what a woman is, they seem utterly incapable of giving you a straight answer, or if they do, fail to explain how anything they are doing – like attacking an organisation like Lighthouse – is in the public interest when Lighthouse poses no threat to the public whatsoever.

As we have seen with the BBC register for child abusers and sexual abuse convictions recently, those in glass houses really shouldn’t throw stones given that, if anything, THEY are the threat to the public.

‘In the public interest’ is one of those terms which no one ever seems to question, like ‘war on terror’ or ‘weapon of mass destruction’. What do these terms actually mean and what is being done in the name of these things, that have actually no or little foundation in law?

As far as I understand it there is no legal definition of ‘In the public interest’ yet government agencies can use it to hide their true agenda, motive, their so-called evidence and attack, slander and defame anyone they choose ‘In the public interest’…?
