19th August 2026 – Lighthouse Wednesday Update – Is Richard Thomas Stupid or Evil? Or Both? Part 1

Lighthouse Daily – 19th August 2026…

Good day, fellow citizens and brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today’s update is about an 11-minute read.

In this update:

  • Is Richard Thomas Stupid or Evil? Or Both?

If you are new to our work at Lighthouse Global and want to know why the Establishment attacked us, click below to read a statement from our CEO and founder, Paul S. Waugh.

Is Richard Thomas Stupid or Evil? Or Both? Part 1

“For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” — Matthew 12:37

Jesus Christ Himself said of us all.. “You who are evil” (Matthew 7:11). He did not mince his words. Every single one of us is both evil and stupid at some level; we all justify doing bad things in the name of doing something good at times. And we all make horrendous mistakes that we could easily have prevented with greater wisdom and foresight. With this in mind, we need to ask ourselves where that level of evil or stupidity goes through the roof.

In the case of Richard Thomas, depending on the circumstances, the difference in the levels of evil and stupidity has been when something in the background was threatening him, mainly his wife. This had nothing to do with the people at Lighthouse Global who he had been evil against.

So the real question is… are we repentant-regenerate stupid and evil, or are we in-denial, degenerate reprobate stupid and evil?

Richard Thomas is such a tragic case because he bowed low as a broken, weak middle-aged man and said: “I need help!”

He recognised he was a poor father and husband, and he was starting to grow under the mentorship and support of Lighthouse Global, but what happened next was extraordinarily stupid and ultimately evil.

Why would someone go from immensely valuing a service, support and community, to then taking part in a full-scale hate-and-smear campaign against the very people who were helping them?

Was Richard Thomas stupid? Or was he evil?

Today you will be able to assess that in his own words.

This is not only about Richard Thomas’s vitriolic attacks on Lighthouse Global. It is a warning for every person who invests in growth, and for every person who helps another human being through that process. Because when someone genuinely begins to change, the struggle does not only come from within them. More often than not, it comes from the people around them who do not want that change to happen. This is well documented by eminent psychologists, the world over.

Was He Stupid To Invest In Himself Through Lighthouse Global?

No.

Richard Thomas was involved as a paying client with Lighthouse Global for around five years. He received extensive and personalised support from his mentor, Shaun Cooper, from Paul S. Waugh, and from the wider Lighthouse community. This was not an abstract or distant relationship. He knew the people involved. He experienced the care. He expressed gratitude for it. He valued it deeply.

Most importantly, he saw the bigger picture.

Richard Thomas said he wanted the best for his children. He saw that his own growth was not an optional extra, but central to becoming the kind of father capable of helping his children become properly equipped and prepared for life. He recognised the gap between where he needed to be as a father, a man and a business professional — and where he actually was.

That is not an easy thing for any person to face. But he recognised his inadequacy at a level. And, as anyone with any level of honour, responsibility and seriousness would do, he chose to invest in himself through those he trusted to help him.

Richard Thomas did not invest £25,000 in himself through the Lighthouse Associate Elect Programme because he was stupid.

He invested because he recognised a need in himself that impacted those closest to him. There was no one else in his life who could help him in the way he knew he needed to be helped. Not in his family. Not in his friendship circle. Not in his workplace. Not through his outside interests and activities.

His investment was not made in ignorance. It was made with awareness and conscience.

Richard Thomas knew that if he was serious about becoming the man, husband, father and professional he said he wanted to become, then he needed to be around people who would tell him the truth, especially when it was hard to hear.

And after making that investment, his gratitude was not a one-off moment. It was ongoing. Before his wife, Antonia Brider-Thomas, was persecuting him and putting pressure on him to leave, that gratitude was devastatingly clear in his own words.

The screenshots below are from a group feedback channel where individuals share their reflections on Lighthouse collective mentorship meetings:

In March 2020, Richard thanked Paul for his commitment, described him as “a very rare individual” and expressed excitement about using what he was learning to help others.

On 16 May 2020, he wrote about the “powerful impact which LIG (then Lighthouse International Group, and now Lighthouse Global) has had on people’s outlooks, perceptions, minds and lives.” His conclusion: “Stick with it, it is worth it, and the benefits for your partner, current and future families will be obvious and rewarding.”

Then, during a recorded call on 1 August 2020, he was even clearer: “I wouldn’t be here… if I didn’t see or experience the benefit from this.” And: “I think for every individual that comes across and touches this, there’s enormous benefit.”

Speaking directly about Paul’s character and care, Richard said: “I know there’s no ruthless streak, Paulie.” And: “The care is amazing.”

A stupid man does not write that. A stupid man does not invest £25,000, encourage others to stay, and then describe the care as amazing. Richard Thomas knew what he was receiving. He knew why he was receiving it. He knew who was giving it.

That was not stupidity.

That was responsibility.

That was the beginning of honour.

Was He Stupid To Allow His Wife To Sabotage The Investment In Himself He So Desperately Needed?

Yes. Absolutely!

He knew exactly what the investment was for.

He had already said the benefits for his partner, current and future families would be “obvious and rewarding.” He had already said he would not be there if he had not seen and experienced the benefit. He had already identified himself as a man who needed to grow as a father and husband.

And then he allowed the person who did not understand that need to destroy it.

His wife, Antonia Brider-Thomas, did not understand why he was involved with Lighthouse Global in the way that he was.

In May 2020, Richard wrote that she struggled to understand why he invested so much time in Lighthouse: “She doesn’t get it (yet).”

He hoped that, eventually, she would see the importance of it, not only for him, but critically for their children.

From the Lighthouse side, nothing materially changed.

Richard Thomas could remain involved at the lowest level through a weekly Saturday morning call, whilst keeping up to date with the pioneering research work being done each day. He also received optional audios through the week, giving him the time and space to carry on with his full-time job and fulfil family responsibilities.

The support did not become unreasonable.

The access did not disappear.

The care did not stop… even and especially when his mentor Shaun Cooper supported him pro bono for months.

What changed was the intensity of opposition around him.

In August 2020, Richard said Antonia had begun engaging more with the work on their marriage and their family: “We are having conversations that we’ve never been able to have before.” He also explained that those tough conversations could be perceived by her as “an attack” rather than an opportunity to invest in herself, their marriage, their children and their family.

Richard Thomas described the difficulty of developing when a partner did not understand, value or warm to the work on self.

Scripture speaks about being “equally yoked”: two people aligned in direction, values and purpose.

He wrote, referring to his wife, about the corrosive influence in a marriage of jealousy, misunderstanding and another person’s ego. What he was beginning to describe, without using the terminology himself, is the destructive relational pattern of the toxic Jezebel Syndrome.

This was the start. Antonia’s hostility grew to the point that in May 2021 she was shouting at her husband, during a conference call, because of his involvement at Lighthouse Global.

Richard messaged Shaun Cooper: “Antonia is really going for it about being on the call, pointless staying on cause can’t hear or concentrate.”

Hours later, he messaged again: “The argument still continues right now.”

That is where the real test came.

He could stand in what he knew to be true, endure the pressure, work through the suffering, and become a man forged through adversity. Or he could do what many middle-aged men do: say whatever needs to be said for an “easy life”.

How many middle-aged men — including directors, executives and senior professionals — can manage teams, budgets, companies and clients, but cannot stand in truth inside their own home?

How many men can speak confidently in a boardroom, yet become passive, evasive and compromised when the pressure comes from a spouse?

Many.

Richard Thomas is tragically one of those many.

He knew the value of the investment. He knew what it was for. He knew his children needed a father who would grow. He knew his wife Antonia “didn’t get it.” And he still allowed her to sabotage the very growth he had already said his family needed.

That is not a mystery.

That is stupidity.

A man who can run teams, budgets and clients, yet cannot protect the one investment that would have made him a better father and husband, is not being clever.

He is being stupid.

He chose the seemingly easy life in the short term over the narrow road. He sold out on what he already knew to be true.

And once that stupidity had to be justified, it became something darker.

Was He Evil To Knowingly Lie About His Experience At Lighthouse And His Reasons For Running Away?

Yes.

He was evil because he knew that what he later said was evidently not true at all.

Richard Thomas did not lose his memory. He did not discover some hidden reality that cancelled five years of lived experience. He tried to reverse a record he himself had written and spoken.

The fully evidenced reality is this: he was not contemporaneously describing a ruthless Paul Waugh, a damaging and destructive Lighthouse, or an organisation destroying his marriage. He was describing enormous benefit, extraordinary care, and even improving communication with his wife.

He said Paul was “a very rare individual” as a form of high praise.

He said Lighthouse had a “powerful impact” on people’s outlooks, perceptions, minds and lives.

He told others to “stick with it” because it was “worth it.”

He said he would not be there if he had not seen and experienced the benefit.

He said there was “enormous benefit” for every individual who came across it.

He said, of Paul S. Waugh: “I know there’s no ruthless streak, Paulie.”

He said: “The care is amazing.”

Those are not ambiguous sentences. They are not fragments that can be spun into a later claim of exploitation. They are Richard Thomas, in his own words, justifying the investment in himself, praising the man who founded Lighthouse Global, and commending the work.

Then he ran.

And once he had run, selling out was not enough. He had to justify the decision. He had to create a story that covered over the embarrassment and humiliation of not being able to stand up, as a man and business professional, to the pressure being applied by his own wife.

It was far easier for Richard Thomas to blame the people at Lighthouse Global than to admit the truth: that he could not withstand the unrelenting coercive pressure coming from his very own wife, Antonia Brider-Thomas.

That is why the later story is not a change of mind. It is utterly deceptive.

A change of mind would sound like this: I knew it was helping me. I could not withstand the pressure at home. I caved in, I just can’t handle the pressure. That would have been weak. It would have been tragic. But it would have been true, and it would not have required a public smear. Paul S. Waugh knew Richard Thomas was too weak to stand up to his wife and offered him a completely undue compassionate refund of £25k, which he stupidly ignored.

Was Richard Thomas Stupid To Ignore The Offer of a Compassionate Refund From Paul S. Waugh?

100% yes.

You can read more of the details about this here: The £25k Compassionate Refund Offer Richard Thomas & The Daily Mail Did Not Tell You About.

Through his investment in himself, Richard Thomas received immense care and support in line with his personal, professional and altruistic aims. When the pressure from his wife was too much, he was offered an undeserved compassionate refund. Would he humbly share his actual experience at Lighthouse Global?

No.

What Richard Thomas did instead was try to invert the record.

He deceived the public into seeing the people who had helped him as the villains. He falsified the care he had called amazing as abuse. He portrayed the man he had said had no ruthless streak as a sinister aggressor and thief. The wife whose hostility he had documented in real time was recast, with Tom Kelly of the Daily Mail, as the reasonable rescuer in a libellous hit-piece.

He knew that was not true. He knew it when he said the opposite.

While Richard is still the victim of pressure inside his own four walls, he is not an innocent narrator of what happened next. He became the protagonist of the hate-and-smear campaign. He turned the helper into the scapegoat. He did that knowing the contemporaneous record said the opposite.

That is not stupidity.

Stupidity does not write “the care is amazing” and later sell the public a monster. Stupidity does not say “I know there’s no ruthless streak” and later present Paul S. Waugh as a ruthless man. Stupidity does not tell others to stick with it for the sake of their families, then run from the same work and lie about why.

That is knowing falsehood.

By his own words, he was justified when he told the truth about the benefit. By those same words, he is condemned when he denies it. Scripture is not vague on this. Neither is the documented record.

So the answer is clear.

Richard Thomas was not stupid to invest in himself through Lighthouse Global.

He was stupid to allow his wife to sabotage the investment he so desperately needed as a father and husband.

He was evil to knowingly lie about his experience at Lighthouse and his reasons for running away.

He chose the seemingly easy life over the narrow road. He chose scapegoating over honesty. He chose a hate and smear campaign over repentance. And then he asked the public to believe a story his own mouth had already destroyed.

Correcting a falsified public record does not require counter-spin. It requires the contemporaneous record: what Richard actually said, what he actually valued, what changed and when, and what pressures surrounded that transition.

If you are helping people grow, be warned.

You are never only supporting one individual. You are also dealing with the unseen world around that individual. A person may genuinely value you, thank you, and know you helped them — and still, if the pressure around them becomes too great, they may turn on you rather than confront the person applying the pressure. That does not make the truth any less true. It does mean those who support others must be sober, discerning and prepared.

Because the people who need the most help may, under pressure, become the very people who bite the hand that feeds them, and some will not only run. They will try to destroy you and your life’s work.

Note: Given Paul’s longstanding ill health resulting from the multiple Establishment attacks on him, these daily updates are generated by the team, drawing from recent and older meetings and transcripts that Paul has shared with us. We ask for you to keep him in your prayers as he builds strength and renews in our Lord.

God bless,

How the situation with Mr Thomas descended into such acrimony from his side is indeed very sad and tragic. I remember the Saturday calls with Mr Thomas and really valued his contribution and appreciation for them. And to then see a 180% change in his attitude months later was extraordinary. I remember Mr Cooper saying Mr Thomas had disappeared and then suddenly when he came back was a different person. So I’m appreciating the reality being shared not the lies of the BBC.

Reading about the case of Richard Thomas is a tragic one, because it’s not just about him and it’s not just about his attacks on us at Lighthouse Global. Instead it is an example of how so many males sell out, particularly when getting to middle age. They may well have marriage, kids, mortgage and an established career, but they’re living in a state of quiet desperation. They sold out and they get bossed around by their wives who become substitute mummies. They allow it for ‘an easy life’, but they sell out and kiss goodbye to becoming a better man who’s truly leading their life.

I saw a social media post yesterday where a wife presented a powerpoint proposal for them to have a fifth child. The guy looked so exhausted, indifferent and resigned to just accept it because he pretty much knew that he had no choice in the matter.

Reading this it looked like Richard Thomas was given a ray of hope to turn his life around, but that hope was snuffed out by his own wife, Antonia Brider-Thomas!

This is a really powerful update, and one that I can attest to in my own right, but for the grace of God. I really appreciate you taking us through each step with the question as to whether something is good or evil, as it is incredibly informative.

There is so much truth now coming out in relation to the tragic case of Richard Thomas, and that’s how it needs to be. The truth will always come out in the end, and we pray for Richard and his family. 🙏

God bless, and thank you. 🙏

This is a fascinating read, thank you! Reading Mr Thomas’ messages clearly shows how much he saw the value in Lighthouse and in the services offered, and how he could see that this helped him become a better person, a better father, and a better partner. The fact that he spoke to others about his involvement in an encouraging way also shows how much he experienced the benefits.

So, it’s a shame that Richard Thomas ultimately sold out his progress to his wife and that he couldn’t withstand her pressure. However, it’s certainly his full responsibility how he reacted afterwards, whether in an evil or stupid way. However, that reveals the real character that he wanted to address and work on in the first place, as it appears.
Looking forward to further revelations! Thank you.

There’s no two ways about it: what’s happened to Richard Thomas is really sad. His own words reveal that he totally switched when he was being hounded by his wife, again as his messages show, and when he didn’t get the result he wanted after trying to blackmail Lighthouse into a refund. Again, also proven through information shared about Mr Thomas. The evidence is clear and none of these facts were disclosed to the public by the media he went to – no surprises there.
Mr Thomas needs help and I pray that he receives the proper counsel he needs to make this right.

This is an excellent and thorough article giving the public just a taste of what we have experienced at the hands of people who heeded the voices of others who did not want the person to change. The stupidity and evil of our attackers, has become increasingly clear over the years. The investment Richard Thomas made into himself to improve key areas of his life, was not a stupid one, but an informed and intelligent one and the screen shot messages reflect that he was benefiting immensely from this work. Like we have always maintained, we have copious amounts of evidence to back up the truths we have consistently revealed for 5 years and what really happened and why. This example here, ought to make Richard Thomas and any of our attackers, recoil in embarrassment and I hope, come to repentance.

“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’” – 1 Corinthians 15:33

Thank you for one of many clear breakdowns of the difference between stupid and evil, and the major ramifications of our choices, by way of example through Richard Thomas. God help him.

The question in the first section is such a good one, because none of us are not evil. It’s a question of whether we repent for that evil and seek to regenerate or deny it to ourselves and degenerate further. The more one looks inside the more they will see that’s the case. But it’s only going to be the former who does, because the latter is in denial and won’t look where the answer isn’t going to be what they want it to be. This is what I love about the Bible, it’s so true and accurate. It’s God’s word and we cannot escape it’s truth, only avoid it for a while, but that only makes it worse. Isn’t it tragic that Mr Thomas is the example of pretty much most people today, that have no one in their lives that can truly help them, mentor, lead, guide and teach them on the back of the education cult having let them down and stunted their growth as much as it does. That is made so much harder, if not impossible, when those closest to us are trying to sabotage or hinder the growth we desire, whether a wife as in his case, or be it a husband, a parent, a sibling. It is far too common. Mr Thomas demonstrated so much for me, the stupidity that comes with evil, but to do what he did was most definitely evil. The fact he can’t humble himself and repent only confirms that. I pray for him, his wife and his family 🙏

What an update, thank you so much for sharing more about Mr Thomas. Hearing how, in an instant, his wording changed about Paul and Lighthouse. Turning on you all just like that and lying. I pray for him and his wife; most of all, I pray for his children. Being raised by people like that…I value how you are sharing this to help open our eyes and to correct the record. God bless you all…

I find this article genuinely moving because it not only explains what has happened in the case and the determination to appeal, but also shows the strength it takes to keep standing for what you believe is true when the process itself becomes part of the struggle. What I particularly value is that it does not end in defeat or bitterness, but points towards perseverance, lawful redress, prayer and faith, showing that the fight for truth and justice can continue even when the immediate outcome is deeply disappointing.

This is the reality that The BBC, Daily Mail and every other attacker of Lighthouse doesn’t want you to hear.

If the media had done a proper job of reporting they would have included this and many other examples of what actually took place, rather than fabricating a smear campaign, ultimately, for ratings and sales.
